Clock & Time 🕓

Drag the hands and read the time — in numbers, in English and in Khmer. Work out what time it will be later, how long something takes, and practise reading and setting the clock.

Drag either hand. The arrow keys move the time; Page Up and Page Down move a whole hour.

The time

In English

In Khmer

How to read it

  1. The short hand is the hour. When it is between two numbers, the hour is the smaller one it has passed.
  2. The long hand is the minutes. Each number it points to is 5 minutes: count 5, 10, 15… round from the 12.
  3. Up to the 6 it is "past" the hour. After the 6 it is "to" the next hour: 4:40 is twenty to five.

Good to know

The hour hand moves too

At half past four the short hand is halfway between 4 and 5, not on the 4. Dragging the minute hand here moves the hour hand with it, the way a real clock does.

Count on through the hour

Time does not work in hundreds, so 7:45 + 35 min is not 7:80. Go to the next o'clock first (15 min to 8:00), then add what is left (20 min → 8:20).

am, pm and the 24-hour clock

am is from midnight to midday, pm from midday to midnight. Bus and flight times use the 24-hour clock: add 12 to any pm hour, so 4:40 pm is 16:40.

Nothing leaves your device

Everything runs in your browser and nothing is saved. The address bar keeps the time, so a link opens the same clock.
