Inequality Solver ⚖️

Type any inequality — linear, quadratic, with fractions, absolute values, square roots, powers, logarithms or sines — or a whole system. The answer comes as an interval and on a number line, with the working written the way the book writes it: the conditions, the table of signs, every step.

Your inequality

Unknowns

Write it as on paper: 2x, x^2 or x², |x − 1|, sqrt(x + 3) or √(x + 3), 2^x, e^x, log_2(x), log x, ln x, sin 2x, π. Use <= and >= or the ≤ ≥ keys.

    How the solver works

    One method underneath

    Linear, quadratic, polynomial and fraction inequalities all end the same way: everything on one side, one fraction, factorised, and the answer read off a table of signs. The steps before that follow the book for each type — dividing by a negative reverses the sign, Δ and the sign of a for a quadratic.

    The conditions come first

    A denominator cannot be 0, a logarithm needs a positive number inside, a square root needs one that is not negative. These are found before anything else and the answer is kept inside them. In the table of signs a forbidden value is marked ‖.

    Every other type is reduced

    |u| < v becomes −v < u < v; √u < v becomes u ≥ 0, v > 0 and u < v²; aᵘ < aᵛ becomes u < v, or u > v when the base is between 0 and 1; 4ˣ − 3·2ˣ + 2 < 0 becomes a quadratic in t = 2ˣ. Each reduction is a step you can open, and the pieces are solved the same way.

    Honest about decimals

    Answers are exact — 3/4, 1 + √3, 5π/6, log₂5. When there is no textbook method, as for 2ˣ > x², the sign changes are located numerically and the answer is marked as numerical. Everything runs in your browser; the address bar keeps the inequality, so a link shows a classmate the same working.
